MIDDLETON-Julia Mary Greenwood, age 100, passed away at Creekwood Assisted Living in Waunakee on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. The seventh of ten children of Andrew and Johanna (Ryan) Hand, Julia was born on October 1, 1912, in Ridgeway and lived there until her marriage to Kenneth (Kenny) Greenwood on April 25, 1933. They lived in Hollandale; Madison; Berwyn, IL; and Las Vegas, NV, their favorite place. For 24 years they enjoyed retirement in Las Vegas until Kenny’s passing in January 1997. Julia then returned to Wisconsin to be near her family. Julia will be remembered for her love of family; her feistiness; her Irish wit and sense of humor; her delicious lemon meringue pie, pasties and saffron bread; and her delight when playing bingo and the slot machines—especially if she won.

Julia is survived by one sister, Florence (Tippy) Short; two daughters, Jean Greenwood and Karen Ferry (Jim); four grandchildren, Kelly (Larry), Kathy (Ray), Tom (Michelle) and Jenny; six great-grandchildren, Josh, Nicole (Joe), Andy, Amanda, Tristan and Ryan; one great-great-granddaughter, Isabelle; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to the entire staff of Creekwood and the Agrace HospiceCare Ruby Gunderson_Funeral Team who assisted with Julia’s physical and spiritual care during the past year and a half at Creekwood. Special thanks also to Monsignor Douglas Dushack of St. Bernard’s parish in Middleton.

At Julia’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. It was her wish to return to Las Vegas to be with Kenny.
