JoAnn R. DeNure age 70, died on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She left this world with the same tenacity and determination that she fought cancer. JoAnn was born on September 22, 1942 in Columbus to Joseph and Dorothy (Kohls) Steel and was raised in Fall River. She was a 1960 graduate of Fall River High School. JoAnn attended UW-LaCrosse, UW-Platteville and UW-Madison. She was married to Gary DeNure on June 15, 1963 in Fall River where the couple raised their children. They later moved to Columbus. JoAnn was an avid reader particularily of mysteries and history. She had a great interest in politics with a meticulous memory for past events and the ability to relate them to the present. She served many years on the Fall River school board and the Columbus City Council. She was committed to her civic duty and the responsibility she held to better her community. JoAnn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus. She cherished time spent with her family and adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie (Donald Prince) DeNure of Lakeland, FL, and Shelley (Mark Ristey) DeNure of Columbus; a son, Andrew (Heidi) of Horicon; four grandchildren, Gage DeNure, Noah Steenberg, Isabella DeNure, Zachary Prince; two sisters, Kathleen (Duane) Foulkes of Beaver Dam and Nancy (Robert) Hughes of Fall River; two sisters-in-law, Mary Steel of Madison and Judy (Richard) Pagenkop of Port St. Lucie, FL; a brother-in-law, William (Kathy) DeNure of Wonewoc; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2009; two sons, Eric and Matthew; a brother, Hugh Steel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Merva DeNure; a niece, Sarah Hughes.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Robert V. Moberg will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Fall River Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 26 at the funeral home only. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or Community Living Connections, Inc in Madison, WI.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Frontiera, Dr. Gregory Matzke and their teams for believing in Mom and what she could do.
