MADISON-James R. Anderson, age 80, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Oak Park Nursing Home. The journey is over and arrival at destination, eternal life with his Lord, completed. Jim was born on Sept. 22, 1931, in Stoughton, to Glenn and Lorraine (Peterson) Anderson. He spent most of his growing up years with his grandparents on a farm in what is now Governor Dodge State Park. He attended school in Dodgeville and Mineral Point, and graduated from Beloit High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he spent nine years, most of them at sea with brief visits to many countries. These were interesting years and he loved telling his sea stories to anyone who would listen. He also spent two years in the U.S. Air Force. Jim was a very creative thinker, finding uses for stuff most people would throw away. He also created many games. His deepest passion was learning more about his Savior, Jesus Christ. Another passion was communicating, both verbally and in writing, with politicians.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joy; four children, Dianna (Michael) Zweifel of Poynette, Richard (Susie) of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Jeff (Yeni) of Kissimmee, Fla., and Dennis of Madison; three stepchildren, Douglas (Debra) Sevedge of Monona, Marcia Sevedge of Madison, and Scott (Beverly) Sevedge of Morrisonville; and grandchildren, Whitney and Lindsey Volker, Brandon and Hannah Sevedge, Aaron, Lucas, and Robin Sevedge, Ashley Sevedge, and Joshua Anderson. He is further survived by many brothers, sisters, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and two nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital Neuroscience Center and Oak Park Nursing Home.
