James H. Yanke, age 78, died on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born in Sumpter Township, Sauk County, on July 5, 1934, the son of the late Herbert and Louise (Kruse) Yanke. Jim graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1952 and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1954 - 1956. He was united in marriage to Carolyn L. Collins on July 13, 1963. Jim worked for Pet Milk Company and Hottmann Construction before farming with his brother in Sumpter Township. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac, and had served on the church council and also on the Sumpter Town Board.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, Herb (Cathy); a daughter, Aletha (John) Ballweg; five grandchildren, Matthew and Renee Ballweg and Beth, Jeff and Katie Yanke; mother-in-law, Erma Collins of Madison; sister-in-law, Eunice Yanke of Prairie du Sac; Carolyn's siblings, Ginger Collins of Grand Haven, Michigan, Jean (Ed) Mick of Sun Prairie, Roger (Mary) Collins of Stoughton and Mary (Mark) Collins of Oregon; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ken; and his sister- and brother-in-law, Donna & David Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at ST. JOHN’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 with Pastor Sally Williams officiating. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Ruth Culver Community Library.
