Jack B. Schmittel, age 78, of South Beloit, IL, died on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Wm. S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on January 28, 1934 in Rockford, IL, the son of the late Forrest and Constance (Stuckey) Schmittel. Jack married Hannelore Matzke and together they had three children. He graduated from Winnebago High School and proudly served in the US Army from January 3, 1956 until he was Honorably discharged on February 27, 1958. Jack was the plant manager for Toledo Screw Machine Products, Inc. in Rockford for many years, retiring in 1999. A very humorous, friendly and easy going gentleman, Jack's hobbies included fishing and operating an antique booth at the Roscoe Antique Mall.
He is survived by his three children, whom he was very proud of: Barbara (John) Lewellen of Rocky Mount, MO, Diana (Kim) Alexander of Roscoe, IL and Richard (Crystal) Schmittel of Rockford, IL; grandchildren: Trey and Bryclen Lewellen, Kristen (Zach) Miller, Kara Pratt, Tyler, Zachary, and Dayne Schmittel, Ryan and Kyle Logsdon and Beth Bentley. He is further survived by his brother and three sisters: Bill Schmittel, Sandy (Joe) Collard, Darla (Dan) Walter, and Connie Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Hanna.
A Celebration Honoring Jack's life will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 9460 Rock River Dr., Edgerton, WI. Private graveside services will be held at Byron Cemetery, Byron, IL. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Jack's name to the Wm. S. Middleton VA Hospital Foundation.
