WAUNAKEE- Fred Leroy Martin went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Apr. 20, 2013, at the age of 85. He was born on July 18, 1927, in Bentonsport, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Elsie (Payton) Martin. He married Molli Rae Huff on Dec. 14, 1958, in Lockridge, Iowa.
Fred served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952, then in the reserves until 1969. Fred studied Engineering at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was employed as a Tool and Die Maker for many years and in later life he worked as a Lead Tool Designer at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill. Fred was a skilled craftsman and had a great gift for designing innumerable things. Fred enjoyed wood working and model railroading. He had a great love for spending time with family and was a devout Christ follower and member of Blackhawk Church.
Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Molli Rae; children, Donald (Bobbie) Martin and Anne (Phillip) Bakke; grandchildren, Jarrett and Bailey Martin, Chelsea and Cameron (Emily) Bakke; and great-grandchildren, Lola, Laila and Tristan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Robert Eugene Martin.
He is deeply cherished and will be missed by his family. They look forward to a Heavenly Reunion.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at BLACKHAWK CHURCH, 9620 Brader Way, Middleton, WI at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday.
Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill. at Noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
Memorials may be made to Blackhawk Community Church or Agrace HospiceCare.
