Madison -- Elbert Lee King, age 81, died on Friday, February 15, 2013. He was born on January 17, 1931 in Fayette, Mississippi. He was the fifth of nine children. He served in the army from December 10, 1952 through December 11, 1954. He entered basic training in Fort Jackson, South Caroline and achieved the rank of corporal.
He married Eula Marie (Haney) King in 1956 who preceded him in death, August 20, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by his parents Herbert King Sr. and Essie Lula King; three brothers, Alfred King, Herbert King, Jr. and Ellis Lee King; two sisters, Anna Mae Devaul and Anna Bess King.
He is survived by brother William Henry King; two sisters, Eretta Jones and Velma Marie King: sons, Kenneth Williams (Gloria), Gregory King (Janeine), Alvin King; and daughters, Letha Glass (Dan), Brenda King, Regina King and Kimberly Wilson.
He was blessed with many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Within the family, Elbert was a loving brother, uncle, father, grand-father and great-grand-father. To some others he was a lover and to many others he was a great godfather. Always the consumate gentleman, he shared his charm and wisdom. He always provided a rhyme that matched the moment and the time, He will be missed by the world that knew him and remain a void to the world that did not. With Elbert, the Lord collected on a winning ticket.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 pm at the Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Rd., Madison.
