Dorothy Jean McCormick
Madison: Jean McCormick, age 88, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Agrace HospiceCare, peacefully, with her family at her side.
Born to William Alvin and Dorothy (Main) Ricks in Kalispell, Montana on August 30, 1924, she spent most of her childhood in Rexburg, Idaho. While attending the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, she met her future husband, Patrick McCormick. She graduated in 1946. Jean and Patrick married in Boise, Idaho in 1947, and moved to Madison.
Jean spent many years making a wonderful home for Patrick and her children, Shelley and Joe. She served as a volunteer, often as an officer, for several organizations, including the Wisconsin Council of Catholic Women, The Madison Art Center, and the Maple Bluff Garden Club, among many others.
Jean taught English at Central High School for a brief period of time. For about ten years, Jean and three of her friends had a great time owning and operating Guenevere’s, a gift store. Jean was an accomplished artist; first with watercolors, and then with pastels.
When she was 78, she was very proud to become a member of the Madison Art Guild. Jean and Patrick had a wonderful life together, traveling extensively and entertaining their many friends in their home. They were very fond of putting on ‘Door County style’ Fish Boils in their backyard. Jean and Patrick were married for 61 years until Patrick died November 10, 2008.
Jean is survived by her children, Shelly Okey and Joe McCormick; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Okey, Virginia Okey, Hirschey (Josh) Georgia McCormick, Genna McCormick, Savannah McCormick and her sister, Nancy (Dick) Ioset.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Agrace HospiceCare, Capitol Lakes, and her caregivers, Daniella and Laticia for making her last years so comfortable.
