Dorothy "Dolly" Scott, 82, of Madison, WI, died Sept. 21, 2016, in the company of loving family. Dolly was born in Germantown, NY, to Magdalena H. Dutton and Theodore F. Dutton on March 1, 1934. She attended Saint Lawrence University on a New York State Regents Scholarship, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Valedictorian. Her Masters degree in teaching was earned at Harvard University, again on a full scholarship. With her former husband, Dolly lived in New Haven, CT, Melrose, MA, and Lexington, KY, before settling in Wausau, WI, in 1974.There she taught in the public schools, in both special education and mainstream classrooms, until 1996. Over the course of her career she touched the lives of more than 800 students. After retiring she remained active in a wide variety of community organizations -- notably Wausau's First Universalist Church and the Marathon County Public Library Board of Trustees, both of which she served as President. She moved to Madison in 2013. An avid reader and gardener, Dolly loved crossword puzzles, classical music, theater, and most of all her grandchildren, to whom she was a constant source of inspiration and support. She is predeceased by her parents and by sister Louise and brother Theodore, Jr. She is survived by her son Michael and wife Kelly of Rochester, NY, her daughter Becky of Madison, and her son Steven and wife Lori of Seattle WA; by grandchildren Shawn, Rhiannon, Courtney, Erin, Shaina, Lauren, and Shannon; and by great-grandchildren Cody, Raene, Talon, and Caylynn.Plans for a memorial service and visitation will be announced at a later date.
