Doris K. Penberthy, age 65, of Dodgeville, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Agrace Hospice in Madison.

Doris was born on March 25, 1947 in Dodgeville to Robert and Helen (Sittig) Penberthy. She was a special and unique person with many skills and talents. She loved birds and cats and had a special way with them. The embroidered quilts she made are treasured. When she was younger, Christmas decorating was a big event and she filled the house with ornaments, mostly handmade. Doris was a lifelong member of Standart Primitive Methodist Church, where she was active in the Missionary Society and for many years, supported Mission efforts in Guatemala with her card making talent. She knew her Bible by heart, was a good example to all of us and did her best to be a good Christian.

Doris lived in Dodgeville her entire life, first on the family farm and then at Stonefield Apartments where she and her cat enjoyed the last four years, happily living in her own apartment and making many good friends. Bingo and puzzles were activities she enjoyed daily until her sudden illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara Slack.

Doris leaves us to miss her and yet rejoice for her. She is survived by her brother, Lavern (Mary) Penberthy of Coloma; four nieces and nephews, Becky (Jim) Hovde of Baraboo; Shelly Penberthy of Milwaukee; Brian (Kelly) Slack of Linden and Sheila (Trevor) Mast of Saginaw, MI; great nieces and nephews, Laurynda (Ben) Gaffney; Ryan (Jen) Slack; Cecilia Mast (fiancé, Keith); Samuel Mast; Robert Slack; Brittany Slack; Kaitlin (Luke) Jacobson; Ashley Hovde and Derek Hovde; many great-great nieces and nephews as well as many special friends and family including Margaret Peat, Linda (Verdon) Weber, her church families at Standart and in Dodgeville her friends everywhere and last, but certainly not least, her cat Sapphire.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville. Pastor Bruce Bennett will officiate with burial in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday and after 10:00 AM on Saturday. Memorials to Doris’s family would be appreciated.
