Donna Jean (Swenson) Schlough, age 78, passed away at her home on April 7, 2013, following an apparent heart attack.
Donna was born on February 18, 1935, in Arena, the daughter of the late Clarence and Marie (Peterson) Swenson. Donna was a 1953 graduate of Arena high School. She married Frank Schlough on September 27, 1954, in the little brown church in Iowa. She was a member of the Wisconsin Heights Lutheran Church. Donna was a wonderful lady and a great cook. Her chocolate cake , chocolate chip cookies and of course, her famous fudge, had all of our mouths watering for more. Donna was just as at home, sitting on a tractor, as she was cooking in the kitchen. She had many jobs and never complained. She would always tell it like it was, she was a real straight shooter. Her favorite season was winter, "no bugs". Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Ryan and Katlin. She loved them so.
Survivors include her husband , Frank; their daughter, Jean (Kallen) Schwartz; her grandchildren, Ryan and Katlin; a sister, Joyce (James) Richardson ; and a brother, Sonny (Karen) Swenson.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Frank Schlough Jr.; a brother, Darrell Peterson Sr. .
To respect her wishes there will be a private ceremony.
"She is gone"- You can shed tears that she is gone, Or you can smile because she lived, You can close your eyes and see that she has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her Or you can be full of love that you shared, You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she is gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on, You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
