Donna Platt, age 71 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. with a prayer service held at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Pastor Doug Schultz.
Donna was born March 17, 1941 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin the daughter of Donald and Clarice (Harrison) Mossholder. She married Duane Platt on October 11, 1958 in Wisconsin Dells. Donna was a life-long homemaker and actively engaged in the community. She pursued her passion for literature and reading as a member of the Friends of the Kilbourn Public Library, ensuring future generations access to books and learning; she sang every chance she got including family wedding gigs, church, bible studies and around the house. However, cooking was her special gift that she shared with her family, friends and community. Christmas was often an extraordinary time when she baked upwards of 20 dozen cinnamon rolls and her head elf (husband, Duane) would be directed to make beribboned holiday deliveries to places like the Bank of Wisconsin Dells, the library, her insurance company, the post office and other such community favorites. Her family has already heard how much her delectable dishes will be missed. Donna was a cook’s cook and she lived by food, friends, family and fun.
Donna is survived by her husband, Duane; sons, Peter (Lori) Platt of Portage, Wisconsin, Paul Platt and Daniel Platt both of Wisconsin Dells; daughters, Rebecca (Daryl) Johnson of Wisconsin Dells, Melanie (James) Gibson of Lake Delton and Jennifer (Doug) Schultz of Churchville, New York; brothers, Tom Mossholder of Oxford, Wisconsin, James Mossholder of Yardley, Pennsylvania and Daniel Mossholder of Portage; sisters, Mary Bailey of Atlanta, Georgia and Lou Ann Mossholder of Sarasota, Florida; and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Myrna Griffin; an infant sister and grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Schultz.
Please bring a recipe to share, including name and address, to be compiled in a Celebrations Cookbook to honor Donna’s passion for cooking. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used to establish a culinary scholarship and literacy program in memory of her.
