Dianne M. Behm, 61, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in her home after a courageous 6-year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Cicero, IL to Jerome and Rosemary Kizior. After graduating from Morton East High School in 1973, she attended Loyola University and earned a degree in Psychology in 1978. She remained in Chicago where she met her future husband, Dr. James C. Behm, whom she married on November 12, 1982. They relocated to Janesville, WI where they raised their two sons: Bryan and Kevin, and have remained ever since.
Dianne worked initially at Blain Supply and Data Dimensions before settling at Lab Safety Supply (Grainger) where she had recently celebrated 25 years of service. She was a very generous person and was a supporter of HealthNet and YWCA. In 2010 she and Jim created the Emily Kletzien Foundation after the tragic loss of a family friend. Each year they present a scholarship to a deserving Parker High School graduate to help them pursue further studies.
In 1995 after Jim bought some hunting land in Juneau County they began spending weekends and spare time in the Mauston/New Lisbon area where they made many new acquaintances and friends. It was not uncommon to see their boat, "Doc and Di's," floating around Castle Rock Lake where they enjoyed its beautiful surroundings.
Highlights of Dianne's life include watching her sons grow up and achieve professional degrees in their chosen careers. She loved the numerous vacations with family and friends and enjoyed taking a ride on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz with Bryan after his deployment in the Navy. Earlier this year she welcomed the arrival of her first grandchild Rory Dianne.
Dianne's spirit and determination after her diagnosis was an inspiration to all. When told she would no longer be able to bowl with her right arm she learned to bowl left-handed. She continued to downhill ski, curl, bike ride, roller blade, and boat. She was not going to let cancer change her life.
Dianne shared with loved ones how much she cherished her life saying; "I love my life and the people in it. Its like one big ice cream cone filled with the most wonderful flavor you can imagine. I know it has to come to an end someday, but until then I am going to savor each lick" (Dianne M. Behm 2016).
She is survived by her husband, James; sons, Bryan (Kendall) and Kevin; granddaughter, Rory Dianne; and brothers, David (Deborah) and Donn Kizior. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Kizior; and mother, Rosemary (Pouzar) Kizior.
A Funeral Service will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at ST.PAUL EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Daniel Decker officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, and again on Saturday, from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Dianne Behm Memorial Fund in care of Johnson Bank, 1309 N Wright Rd, Janesville, WI 53546.
Her family would like to thank the doctors and nurse staff of UW Hospital and clinics, Mercy Hospital, and Agrace Hospice for their care and support. It is the family's deepest wish that a cure be found soon, one that leaves the body and spirit whole and unscarred from either the disease or the treatments.
