Conrad James Honaker (meaning Hill Acre), age 72, died from natural causes on September 15, 2016 in Madison with his family by his side. He was born May 4, 1944 in Viroqua, the son of Clinton and Olga (Olson) Honaker. Conrad was raised and helped out on the family’s tobacco farm in Viroqua.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1968 as Private E-1 with a Sharpshooter Badge, and left with an honorable discharge to care for his father following a heart attack. He attended Wisconsin School of Electronics. He was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio where he met Audrey Meyer and the two were married on June 6, 1970. They had two children, Kevin and Karen.

He went on to work for Joyce Beverage (7 Up) in Madison, Oscar Mayer and C.L. Swanson. On May 1, 2004, he married Nancy Utterback (whom he also met dancing).

Conrad enjoyed fishing, hunting, ballroom dancing and taking on fix-it projects. He was proud of his Swiss-German heritage and had a curiosity for learning about any and everything. He was raised Methodist and continued his Christian faith journey at Bethel Lutheran in Madison.

He is survived by his sister, Mildred “Millie” Evans; his former wives, Audrey Honaker and Nancy Honaker; his children, Kevin (Sherri) and Karen Honaker; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Lauren and Carter Honaker; a sister-in-law, Linda Kay Honaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Catharine (Walter) Beck, Earl Honaker and Betty Honaker.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Conrad’s children.

The family would like to thank Faith Living Center in Sun Prairie and the UW Palliative Care team for their care of Conrad.
