JANESVILLE---Charles J. Gaydos, age 86, of Janesville, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Cedar Crest. He was born in Twin Rocks, PA, on April 15, 1926, the son of George and Eva (Humany) Gaydos. He served in the US Navy during WWII from Aug. 1944 to Aug. 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Charles married Adelaide Jaracz on July 8, 1950, in Milwaukee. They moved to Janesville in Sept 1953. He was employed by General Motors as an electrician for 36 years, retiring in January 1990. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and UAW Local 95.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide; 7 children: Christopher (Kathryn) Gaydos of Ft. Wayne, IN, Gregg (Cindy) Gaydos of Omaha, NE, Margaret (Charles) Dill of Rochester, MN, Teresa (Steve) Ellis of Kenosha, Barbara (Larry) Last of Moulton, AL, Drew (JoAnn) Gaydos of Savage, MN, and Catherine (Brian) Chappell of Middlebury, IN; 23 grandchildren: Eric (Cheryl) Gaydos, Meghan (Brian) Raines and two special granddaughters, Shannon and Brittany Hossinger, Jennifer, Daniel and Michael Gaydos, Charles (Jennifer) Dill, Kimberly (Patrick) Messmer, Matthew and Melissa Ellis, David (Grace) Last, Nicole (Toby) Allen, Stephen (Christine) Last, Joseph (Samantha) Last, Alan, Peter, Rachel, Michael, Paul and Sarah Last, Evan and Kathryn Gaydos, Spencer and Bennett Chappell; 5 great grandchildren: Aliyah and Garrison Dill, Nigel Howell-Dill, Axel Last and Christian James Gaydos; a sister, Sr. Margaret Gaydos of South Beach, NY; a brother, Edward Gaydos of Janesville; and a brother-in-law, John Zanin of Alexandria, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters: Eve Zanin, Ann McHugh, Mary Sharp and Elizabeth Ciszek; and a brother, George Gaydos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with Fr. Randy Timmerman officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will take place on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH. Memorials are preferred to the St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the Parkinson Foundation.
