Madison – Charlene A. Thompson, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at her home following a brief illness and surrounded by her family. She was born on June 17, 1924 in New Glarus, the daughter of Henry and Zella (Eley) Duerst.
She graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. She married Frank Thompson on August 17, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. She worked as an accountant for Farmco for over 40 years until her retirement in 1992. She was an active member of the Moose Club for 66 years.
She is survived by four children, Sharon (Len) Monday of Madison, Terry (Jackie) Thompson of Oregon, Russell (Tess) Thompson of Madison and David (Nancy) Thompson of Avoca; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandsons; three brothers, Gary, Keith, and Kenneth “K.F.” Ginner; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, and two brothers Milbourne Duerst and Ronald Ginner.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, Deforest at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4 – 7 p.m. with a Moose service at 6:30 pm. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
