Carl Francis Tanner, age 75, of Richland Center, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Pine Valley Healthcare following a struggle with Alzheimer’s. Carl was born in Richland County on October 23, 1936, the son of Hugh Tanner and Freda Orsburn Tanner. While serving in the United States Army, he was stationed in France. Upon returning to Richland County, he became one of the owners and operated Center Tire Mart. Carl was a faithful member of the Richland County Ambulance squad for several years. He was united in marriage with Norma Ewing 1980. They enjoyed trips to Hayward where he could fish and relax. Upon retirement from full time work, Carl delivered auto parts for United Auto.
Survivors include his wife Norma Ewing Tanner of Richland Center: Four children: Vaun (Susan) Tanner of Ithaca, Vernell (Frank) Zajicek of Sauk City, Armin (Carol) Tanner of Fort Worth, Texas, Cary Tanner of Richland Center. Norma’s family: Kendy Ewing of Milwaukee, Ronald (Mary) Ewing of Richland Center, David (Andrea) Ewing of Richland Center, 12 grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, his sister Judy (Charles) Leffler of Richland Center, Nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Donna Shireman Tanner, and his brothers Jim and Cecil.
Visitation for Carl Tanner will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sylvan Cemetery with military rites provided by the local veterans military memorial honors unit. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation service is serving the Tanner family.
