MADISON – Birdine Lois (Bea) Steinmetz, age 88, passed away on March 5, 2013. She was born on Feb. 26, 1925, the youngest of four children, to William and Johanna (Ness) McCaughn. Bea graduated from Madison East High School in 1943. She married Donald H. Steinmetz on June 12, 1943, in Hattiesburg, Miss. Bea worked for State of Wisconsin Job Service for 25 years. She enjoyed spending time on the golf course, making trips to the casino, playing cards with friends, and her Old Fashioned’s. Bea was proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed Norwegian baking at holiday time. She was a member of The Elks Club, Arab Patrol Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the Nile. Bea was also a past President of East Side Women’s Club and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Don Jr. (Susanne) and Susan (Tom) Tenhover; grandchildren, Amy Boyer, Sara (Lance) Perkins, Patrick (Kim) Tenhover, Andrew (Santana) Tenhover, and John (Wensday) Tenhover; great-grandchildren, Owen, Avery, Tony, Caine, and Mia; sister-in-law, Marleen Lippert; a nephew, William (Bernice) Guerten; and a cousin, Joanne Smith. Bea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; infant son, Randy; sisters, Isbel and Margaret; and a brother, Alexander.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 Noon, on Sunday, March 10, 2013, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, on Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A private family burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
