MADISON-Avery W. Denkert, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Oak Park Place. He was born on April 27, 1930, in Neenah, the son of William and Elsie (Luebke) Denkert. Avery married Arlene Lutz on May 26, 1956, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookfield. The couple were residents of Madison since 1959. Avery served in the U.S. Army in Korea and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in business administration. He retired from Ray-o-Vac in 1992, where he worked in production control. Avery was a member of Sertoma Club and was its first Vice-President of Directors for the naturalization program. He was a former member of Monona Lutheran Church and a present member of Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church.

Avery is survived by his sons, William of Wautoma, John of Chicago, Robert (Sally) of Milwaukee, and James (Anne) of Waunakee; six grandchildren, Joshua, Mark, Matthew, Sarah, Erin, and Amy; and sister, Lorraine Denkert of Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; and sisters, Naomi Denkert and Marilyn Bohm.

Funeral services for Avery will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD BY THE LAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1860 Hwy. 51, Stoughton, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, and also at the church from noon until the time of service on Monday.
