Alice Virginia (Finn) Petersen went to her eternal life on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at home in the loving care of her daughter. Alice loved life and struggled valiantly to make it to her 90th birthday, falling short by only 34 days.
She was born on October 14, 1926, to Minnie (Weismann) Finn and Arthur Finn in Madison, WI, the second youngest of nine children. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1945. She started working as a waitress at the age of 15. In 1954 she married Donald L. Petersen and they raised three children. Donald's job at the Wisconsin Power and Light Co. took them from Madison to North Fond du Lac in 1957 and then to Janesville in 1964.
Alice continued to work as a waitress at several restaurants in Janesville, including the Alpine and Donutland from which she retired after 10 years in 1987. After that, she and Don were snowbirds to Nevada until his death in 1999. She was a member of First Lutheran Church for many years, acting as a greeter in her later years. She also was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, baking many cakes for their bingo night. Alice was extremely outgoing and had friends of many ages. She loved casino gambling, doing jigsaw puzzles, the color pink and most of all, her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings, her husband and eldest son, William Klein. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara of Janesville; her son, Robert (Bob) of Cape Coral, FL; grandson, Kenneth of Edgerton, WI; granddaughters, Kristi and Katie of Madison, WI, and Kelli of Philadelphia, PA; and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life is being planned at a later date. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family. For on-line condolences and registry: www.schneiderfuneraldirectors.com
