Marshall/Madison- Thomas A. "Whitey" McCormick, age 77, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 at UW Hospital.
He was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1936 in Madison, the son of Robert and Leone (Martin) McCormick. Tom grew up on Madison's Eastside, one of nine children. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1955. After high school, he served in the U.S Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany.
Tom was employed by Madison Kipp Corp. for many years and got his barbering license and worked on Atwood Avenue. Over the years he also worked for various heating and cooling companies.
Tom was very proud of his Irish heritage and always looked forward to celebrating his St. Patrick's Day birthday with family and friends. He was known for being quick with a joke, quick with a smile and having a great Irish wit. Tom will be remembered for his love of his family, his generous spirit and his caring nature.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathe (Chuck) Kubicek; granddaughters, Rachael and Lindsey Klicko; beloved partner and companion, Mary Haefner; two sisters, Mary (George) Pliszka and Anne (Michael) Endres; three brothers, George (Lorraine), Richard (Janice) and Patrick (Patricia) McCormick; three sisters-in-law, Mary, Nyla and Patricia McCormick; former wife, Lorraine McCormick; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, John, Robert "Bob", William "Mac" and Michael.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital and Dr. Timothy Kamp and his team at UW Hospital.
