TOMAHAWK/COLUMBUS—Robert L."Bob" Herzberg age 87 passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at University Hospital Madison.
He was born on August 28, 1926 in Columbus to Leonard and Erna (Rahn) Herzberg. Bob served in the US Navy aboard the USS Portland during WWII and was on board at the peace treaty signing with the Japanese.
He was married to Beatrice Waterworth on April 6, 1948 in Columbus.
Bob was employed by the Rural Electric Company and later owned and operated Bob's Hardware in Columbus. He retired from John Deere in Horicon and moved to Tomahawk, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his ATV, and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Bob was an active lifetime member of the VFW Post 8090 and the American Legion Post 82 both of Columbus. He was currently a member of the Wurl-Feind VFW Post 2687 and American Legion Post 0093 in Tomahawk.
Survivors include his son, Steven (Connie) of Fond du Lac; his daughter, Mary Jane (Roger) Weidemann of Columbus; four grandchildren, Tory (Lori) Weidemann, Brandi Taylor, Kasie (Drew) Kiesling, Stephanie Herzberg; five great grandchildren, Megan, Nolan, Aubrey, Teegan and Porter; one brother, Gene (Jackie) of Columbus; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Herzberg and Joan Herzberg both of Columbus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2004, two brothers, Ralph and Roger.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the funeral home. A private family service will be held, with Rev. Mark Wenzel of Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam officiating, concluding with military honors by the VFW Post 8090 and American Legion Post 82.
