Lois R. Sponberg, 87, of Fort Atkinson, passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Alden Estates of Jefferson.
Lois was born on September 4, 1926 in Carney, Michigan, daughter of the late Gustav and Edith (Frederickson) Johnson. She married Lenny Sponberg on February 14, 1948 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Evanston, IL.
Lois worked for many years as an office manager at a dental office in Appleton. She loved to knit, read, bowl, bake, dance and play cards, but what she cherished most was spending time with her family.
Lois is survived by her husband, Lenny of Fort Atkinson; sons, Curt (Colleen) Sponberg of Lindstrom, MN and Tom (Jackie) Sponberg of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Patti (Steve) Heitz of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Hans (Sarah) Sponberg of San Fransisco, CA, Hanna (Dan) Sponberg of Worcester, MA, Nate (Anna) Heitz of Verona, Stephanie Heitz of Gilbert, AZ, Malcolm Heitz of Fort Atkinson, and Ali and Sean Sponberg of Phoenix, AZ; great granddaughter Lexi Heitz of Verona and two great grandchildren on the way; brother, Paul (Jeanni) Johnson of Sycamore, IL and sister, Alice Wolf of Neilsville. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ray Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson with Pastor Russell Frees Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until time of service. Private burial will take place at Willerup Methodist Cemetery in Cambridge.
