James W. "Jim" Kuhn

James W. "Jim" Kuhn, 86, of Platteville died on Friday, December 06, 2013, at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville, after a three year battle with cancer.

A celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Celebrant will be Tom Sigwarth. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship and lunch at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, at a later date. Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.

Memorials may be made to the James W. Kuhn Memorial Fund.

Jim was born on April 25, 1927 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Banfield) Kuhn. He graduated from high school with a military scholarship to attend UW-Madison. After leaving college he went to Camp Hood in 1944, trained on the 57MM guns and went out of the country many times. He was crew chief in the United States Air Force on the B29 in Roswell, New Mexico, serving for eight years. Jim graduated from UW-Platteville in 1961 as a mining engineer; he later got his Masters in Industrial Technology.

Jim met and married Jeanne Caywood on August 16, 1948 in Roswell. She preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1977. He later was united in marriage to Rose (Averkamp) Junk on October 3, 1988.

He worked for Boeing in Kansas and Hercules Missile, Inc. in Utah. He later worked John Deere Dubuque Works where he retired in 1984. He was a lifetime member of VFW and American Legion. Jim was also a long time member of the Southwest Wisconsin Auto Club. He enjoyed spending time with family, going to his coffee clutch at Country Kitchen. Jim enjoyed attending many Air Force reunions with his wife, Rose. Jim was honored to be chosen in 2011 to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rose of Platteville; children, James W. (Karen) Kuhn, Jr. of Alexandria, VA; Terri (John Hibbard) Stanley of Eau Claire, WI; Kristina Kuhn of LaCrosse, WI; Jon Kuhn of Platteville; Ann (Jack) Johnson of Platteville; Larry Junk of Ankeny, IA; Renee (Nate) Geyer of Cuba City, WI; grandchildren, Braxton Stanley, Maddie and Nicole Kuhn, Shaelyn Keneipp, David Stanley, Meredith Junk, Macy, Kaelyn, Lucas and Jenna Johnson, Abby and Ben Geyer; great-grandchildren, Lila, Kaleb and Cami Stanley; brother, Walt Kuhn of Sun City, CA; sister, Lois (Kuhn) Heller of Hazel Green; brother-in-law, Vernon Goldhagen of Menomonee, IL. He was preceded in death also by his parents, son, David in 1977, brother, Melvin, sister, Darlene Goldhagen, sisters-in-law, Barbara Kuhn and Pat Kuhn, brother-in-law, Anthony Heller.
