Ione G. Micale, 87, of Fort Atkinson passed away on January 28, 2014 at “Our House” in Whitewater, WI.
Ione was born in Little Chute Wisconsin on November 15, 1926, the first daughter of John and Ann Jansen.
She married Frank C. Micale Sr. on May 21, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They purchased the Sunset Lodge Tavern on the North Shore of Lake Koshkonong in November of 1959. The Micale family owned and operated the business until the spring of 1993. Sunset Lodge was one of the first businesses in the Fort Atkinson area to make home made pizza. There were not too many people in the area that Ione or her husband didn’t make a pizza for over the 33 year period of operating the popular tavern and pizza place. For many of those years Sunset Lodge proudly sponsored a number of championship Fort Atkinson area recreational sports teams, including men and woman softball and bowling teams.
Ione was an avid baseball fan. She enjoyed watching both the Milwaukee Braves and later, the Milwaukee Brewers. She attended many games in Milwaukee over the years with family and friends. Ione also enjoyed bowling and golfing activities.
Ione is survived by her daughter, Teri Micale, her sons, Frank C. Micale Jr. and Michael (Teri J.) Micale all of Fort Atkinson, grandchildren, Charlie Folk and Mark Micale, Fort Atkinson, Casey (Andy) Hoernemann, Oregon, Wisconsin and Nick (Valerie) Folk, Rochester, Minnesota, great grandchildren, Kallie and Reese Hoernemann, Oregon, WI. and Carson and Derek Folk, Rochester, Minnesota.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband Frank, daughter Christine and a granddaughter, Kelly.
A private burial ceremony will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The family is planning a memorial service and celebration of her life which will take place later this year.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rainbow Hospice Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Dunlap Memorial Home is assisting the family.
