Helen M. Derleth, age 94, died on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie.

She was born in Portage on October 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Elwin and Olga (Kleist) Bartells. She was united in marriage to Albert Derleth on June 12, 1947 at St. Paul's University Chapel, Madison. Helen attended Beloit High School, graduating in 1937. She later attended UW-Madison, graduating in 1941, and was a former teacher at Oakfield High School and Sauk City High School. Helen was employed by the U.S. Navy Department, Bureau of Ships, at Fairbanks-Morse Company in Beloit, during World War II. She and her husband also owned and operated a plumbing and heating business for 21 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Sarah Circle, a charter member of Sauk Prairie Memorial Auxiliary in 1956, and a member of the Education Alumni Association of the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Alumni Association.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Janice B. Griffin of St. Charles, IL; three nephews, Randall (Dr. Karen) Griffin, Brian (Patricia) Griffin, and John (Sherry) Griffin; several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth.

A Memorial Service will be held at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
