Madison-Harlan L. Hassberg, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Oakwood Skilled Nursing, after a long illness.
He was born on May 26, 1939 to John and Alice Hassberg in Lancaster, WI. After his father passed away at an early age, he was raised by his mother Alice and his father Earl Thayer. He graduated from Waterloo high school and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1961.
Harlan raised three boys with his first wife Christine, before he eventually married Joan Murray in 1999. Through his work in Human Relations, Business Management, and Finance, Harlan traveled and lived in many parts of the world; from Sausalito CA, to Australia. He loved to fish, golf, watch the Badgers, and spend time with his family and friends. His family will miss his sense of humor, and love of fermented grapes.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Joan; his father Earl Thayer; son John of PA; four step-children Suzanne Murray (Dennis), John Murray (Andrea), Elizabeth Schoonveld (Michael), and Christopher Murray (Kristy) and daughter-in-law Maria; his cousin Fred Stokes (Shirley); and 8 grandchildren, Jacob, Meghan, Nolan, Erika, Ian, Leo, Alex and Isaac.
He was preceded in death by his sons Jeffrey, and James; and his mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, or Hebron Skilled Nursing at Oakwood West.
