Madison – George M. Verbeski, age 89, died on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Heritage Memory Care in Middleton.

He was born on December 14, 1924 in Iowa, the son of George C. and Frances (Goscinski) Verbeski. George had a lifelong career in law enforcement and security. He participated in many sports. In 1957 he won the Iowa State Softball Championship. He was an amateur Golden Gloves Boxer and wom 28 out of 29 fights. George loved bowling, hunting, golfing and fishing. He was also an avid cribbage player, winning with two 29 hands, eight 28 hands and won nine of nine tournament hands.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rose (Caravello) Verbeski; step-children, Linda (Rick) McGuigan and Jim (Robin) High; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; his sons from a previous marriage, Ronnie, Danny, Donny and Randy; and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Robert, Raymond and Richard; and two brothers, Eddie and Bobby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Ave. with Msgr. Michael Burke officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Friday. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. or St. Maria Goretti Parish.
