Madison/DeForest-Gary L. Zitlow, age 65, passed away on November 9, 2013 with his family at his side.
He was born on November 15, 1947 to Gerald and Vera Zitlow. He graduated from East High School in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1965 to 1968 as an electrician. After his Navy service, he returned home where he began working with Western Electric as an Installer. In the early 80’s he started driving for Madison Metro, where he worked for 26 years, retiring in 2010. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors with family and friends. He was a jack of all trades and always had a quick wit and a good sense of humor. The joy of his life was his family, especially his granddaughter Sophia.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diana; his sons Leon and Shane Zitlow; granddaughter Sophia Zitlow; his sister Patricia Hoff of Janesville, and brothers Terry (Jeanette) Zitlow of Nevada, and Brian (Michele) Zitlow of Madison; his mother Vera Zitlow, and his nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his father Gerald, and his brothers Kit, Kim, and Mark.
Gary's family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Select Specialty Hospital, and especially Dr. Donita Croft.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Holiday Inn Express of DeForest, 7184 Morrisonville Road, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
