Her marriage in 1947 to Bill Kraus of Marshfield/Stevens Point resulted in her spending 60 years of her life in Stevens Point. Her community contributions are too many to list, but her joy in life came from her involvement in and support of so many non-profit and arts organizations in Portage County; some referred to her as a "one-woman Foundation". She was the first woman to serve on a Bank Board in Stevens Point when she joined the board of the Bank of Park Ridge. She was a founding member of the Women's Fund of Portage County, Interfaith Caregivers and was a part owner of The Yarn Shop in Stevens Point, as well as being one of the original drivers for Meals on Wheels.

Her friends and family will remember her as generous with her time and her assets, She was a fundraiser, a hostess, an avid knitter, a lover of travel, a cookie baker, asports enthusiast, a curler, a golfer, a bowler, a tennis player, a Girl Scout leader, a giver time and time again. She was the ultimate "Professional Volunteer."
