David B.”Butch” Carns, 77, of Platteville, formerly of Potosi, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Our House Senior Living, Platteville.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Gary Ackland will officiate. Burial will be at British Hollow Cemetery, rural Potosi. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the David B. Carns Memorial fund.

David was born on April 6, 1937 in Smelser Township, Grant County the son of Edward Lyle and Sarah (Thomas) Carns, Sr. He was united in marriage to Jean Salis on August 27, 1955 in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years as a drill press operator. Butch was a member of the Potosi Community Bible Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching birds and having his “Butch’s Annual Brat Bash”. After his retirement he and Jean enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He also enjoyed singing praises to his savior and sharing bible verses.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Platteville; three children, Deb Carns of Madison; Terry (Carrie) Carns of Excelsior, MN; Gerry (Molly) Carns of Platteville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Cupp of Platteville; one brother, Richard “Gus” (Sharon) Carns of Buena Vista, AR; sister-in-law, Sandy Carns of Alamogordo, NM; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wade on December 28, 2012, and three brothers, Dean, Edward, Jr., and George “Ted” Carns.
