Shirley R. Mayfield, age 89,of Richland Center, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Pine Valley Healthcare. She was born January 11, 1924 in Vernon County, Wisconsin the daughter of Carl Jasper Willis and Ruby Tanner Willis. After graduating from high school, Shirley worked as a waitress in Rockford, Illinois. She met Earl Mayfield and they married March 4, 1945. They farmed together in Richland County more than 45 years. Earl preceded her in death January 20, 2012. When they lived in Richland Center, Shirley was VFW Auxiliary President in 1983-1984. She was a member of the Good Will Club and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Her favorite hobbies were playing cards and crocheting.
Survivors include: two children: Donna Kappell of Keller, TX, Carl (Marge Wilson) Mayfield of Galesville, WI, four grandchildren: Matt (Ling Chen) Mayfield of Galesville, WI Anthony (Guimel Molina) Kappell opf Wauwatosa, WI Travis Mayfield of Panaca, NV Tinm (Jeaneen Dyrek) Kappell of Dallas, TX, one great granddaughter: Ting-Jing Mayfield, her brother: Merwil Willis of Puiallupe, WA, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Shirley was further preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Willis, sister Emma Willis Stoddard and son in law David Kappell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Pastor Ken Schaub will officiate and burial will be in the Richland Center Cemetery. Visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until service time. The family suggests memorials in Shirley’s name be directed to the Pine Valley Foundation or to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
