Cecil C. Block, 77, of Platteville died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Mike Short will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Cecil was born on October 7, 1935 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Grace (Jerrett) Block. He served in the United States Army and United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Cecil worked at John Deere, Dubuque Works as a manager, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274, where he was Past Post Commander. He enjoyed going to his daily coffee clutch at the VFW in Platteville. Cecil was an avid sports fan of the Cubs, Packers, and Badgers. He enjoyed gardening and canning his own vegetables and fruits that he grew. Cecil helped out many charities, the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital in Madison, children in third world countries and the Humane Society.

He is survived by his four daughters, JoAnn (Tom) Pinch of Highland, WI; Patti (Mike) Jones of Dodgeville, WI; Bonny Block of Monroe, WI; Zelda (Greg) Faherty of Platteville; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pat (Jim) Holmes; brother, Roger (Cherlyn) Block; and these special people in his life, Arlene, Dixie the dog, Kathy, Lori, Jeff and Curt. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Brian Block on May 1, 2002, and sister, Helen Orfield.
