MADISON-Arlene Gervasi, age 91, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, April 1, 2013. She was born on July 16, 1921, in Madison, the daughter of Albert and Victoria (Hanson) Bronson.
Arlene was united in marriage to John Joseph Gervasi on June 22, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa. Their marriage endured for 65 years until John’s passing. They owned a family restaurant, where Arlene was famous for her homemade soups and pies that she made daily. She was a devoted mother, spending most of her life raising six children. In the process she became a jack of all trades around the house. She was a master painter, sewer and upholsterer. One of her best talents was shopping and finding great deals. She loved shopping on Saturdays with Ardythe when they literally “shopped til they dropped”. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, John, Gary (Charlene), Sheryl, Ted, Debra, and Tammy (Bob) Downing; her grandchildren, Charles (Melinda), Alison, Rob, and Ava; and her great-grandchildren, Ian and Maeve.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital for their excellent care.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, followed by a brief prayer service.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts.
