MADISON, Wis. -

A woman insisting on leaving her guinea pigs at a Madison pet store threw the rodents during a confrontation with police, according to a release from Madison police.

Police said the 26-year-old Madison woman walked into Pet World at 2148 W. Beltline Highway around 4 p.m. Saturday and tried to leave her guinea pigs with the ones already for sale in the store.

The manager told police he told her she could take the guinea pigs to the Humane Society but she scoffed at the suggestion and told the manager it was not his store but belonged to animals.

Officers said they tried to get the woman outside the store to talk to her but she refused and tossed the box of guinea pigs at officers.

A store employee was able to push the pets to safety as the woman kicked and shouted at officers, police said.

The store manager told police he would temporarily take care of the guinea pigs and give them to a good home if their owner truly no longer wanted them.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting an officer.
