MADISON, Wis. -

A 40-year-old Stoughton woman came to the aid of a man being mugged on a Madison street Thursday afternoon.

The woman told police she spotted two muggers on top of a man on the ground in the 2000 block of South Park Street at about 4 p.m. She said the men were grabbing the victim by the head and punching him.

The woman said others were driving by like they didn’t see anything, but she stopped, got out, ran across the street and yelled at the men who stopped their attack and fled.

The men took the 20-year-old victim’s cellphone. The victim told police he knew one of the attackers but not the other.

The men are described as in their early 20s. One was wearing a dark-colored heavy coat.
