Wisconsinites to have multiple health insurance options, analysis says

Analysis finds state residents will have at least 2 choices under new exchange

A new analysis finds that everyone in Wisconsin will be able to choose from at least two insurance companies when purchasing coverage through the new marketplaces, or exchanges, created under the federal health care overhaul law.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin did the report released Thursday. It looked at the coverage areas of the 14 insurance companies that notified state regulators they would be selling plans under the exchanges. Those are created under the federal law as a place where people can shop for insurance starting in October, with the plans taking effect in January.

The report finds that at least three insurance companies will be selling plans in nearly 99 percent of the state.

A spokesman for the Wisconsin insurance commissioner's office dismisses the report as speculative.
