MADISON, Wis. -

The state Department of Justice has charged a southeastern Wisconsin tobacco store owner with evading state taxes and operating without the proper permits.

According to criminal complaints filed last week, Mohammed Adbul Qadeer Siddiqui, 40, of West Allis, owns tobacco stores in Sheboygan and Milwaukee County.

State tax agents wrote in the complaints Siddiqui didn't pay nearly $270,000 in excise tax on his products in 2010 and 2011. He also failed to obtain a distributor's permit. They also alleged he didn't keep proper records of purchases from his suppliers.
