Police seek info in attack

MADISON, Wis. -

Police said a man was punched early Saturday morning while walking downtown.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department said a 23-year-old UW student was on foot with a group on the 300 block of North Frances Street at about 2:15 a.m. when a man punched him without warning.

Police said the student required stitches as a result of the attack.

The assailant was described as Hispanic, in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds, according to the report. He had short dark hair, a thin outline-style beard, and was wearing a white jacket with horizontal blue and yellow stripes, gray shoulders and sleeves. He also had on dark pants and white athletic shoes.

The attacker fled into a nearby parking ramp, police said.

The case is under investigation. Police asked anyone with information about attack to call the UW-Madison Police Department at 608-264-COPS.
