A driver who ran a red light Saturday night ended up facing gun and drug charges after officers found a stolen handgun and drugs in the SUV, Madison police said.
An officer saw the SUV go through a red light around 9:50 p.m. on West Johnson Street at State Street, according to a release.
The officer ran the license plate and determined it was supposed to be on a different vehicle, officials said. The driver was pulled over and the officer saw drugs in plain sight inside the SUV.
Officers found crack cocaine, more than 35 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun in the SUV, according to the release. The handgun had been reported stolen out of Juneau County.
The driver, Jerrod J. Ragland, 25, of Madison, was arrested on tentative charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of cocaine. He was also arrested on a warrant.
One of Ragland's passengers, Dwayne L. Collins Jr., 26, of Madison, was arrested on a probation hold. The other two passengers, 31-year-old Kenny W. Collins, of Madison, and 32-year-old Jeffrey D. Briggs Jr., of Sun Prairie, were arrested on tentative charges of possession of THC. Kenny Collins was also arrested on a warrant and probation hold. Briggs was also arrested on a probation hold.
