MADISON, Wis. -

An accused thief attempted to compliment officers before running from them around 12:20 a.m. Friday morning.

Karim A. Ibrahim, 19, of Madison, was arrested after fleeing from officers at a bar on the 600 block of University Avenue. According to Madison police, bouncers had been alerted to prior thefts by other patrons.

According to the release, officers arrived at the bar and found Ibrahim. He attempted to compliment the officers just before bar staff alerted officers they suspected Ibrahim of stealing. He then fled.

Ibrahim tripped while running, allowing police to take him into custody. According to police, he was found with an iPhone and an American Express card. Neither were his.

Ibrahim claimed they were planted by someone else. He was arrested and is accused of theft, resisting arrest and underage consumption of alcohol.
