Volleyball team to name locker room after Illinois woman who died of cancer
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater says it will name its volleyball locker room after an Illinois woman who died from brain cancer.
The Daily Journal in Kankakee reports the facility will be named Friday for Peotone native Lisa Panici. She died in December.
The locker room will be known as the "Lisa Panici Locker Room" and the team will host a fundraiser for a scholarship fund in her honor. Panici played volleyball for one season for the team. She was diagnosed as a freshman.
Volleyball coach Stacy Boudreau said it's a way to honor Panici and inspire players.
The Peotone High School girls soccer team dedicated its season to Panici last spring.
