MADISON, Wis. - A 20-year-old Madison man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on the city's north side last week turned himself into police early Wednesday morning.
Shon Hamilton was arrested on a tentative charge of party to a crime of first-degree intentional homicide. A 16-year old Madison teen was also taken into custody on the same tentative charge, police said.
Hamilton was being sought as a "person of interest" in connection with the shooting that killed Jonathan TeAndre Wilson, 20, on Oct. 20. Police said the shooting, in which multiple shots were apparently fired, happened just after 10 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Troy Drive. A second male victim was hurt in the shooting, but he suffered a superficial gunshot wound and didn't require medical attention.
On Tuesday, police identified four other suspects who had already been arrested in connection with the slaying. Demetrius V. Matticx, 18, of Madison was arrested on a tentative charge of first-degree intentional homicide. Three others -- Dreyon D. James, 19, of Madison; Jimmy A. Leuaxay, 18, of Madison; and John K. Leauxay, 18, of Madison -- were arrested on a tentative charge of party to a crime of first-degree intentional homicide, police said.
Investigators said they believe the shooting was a gang-related incident and not a random event. Police said the violence occurred between individuals with strong gang affiliations, and the gang members involved in the shooting specifically targeted the other group in a coordinated attack with multiple weapons being fired.
"There were drugs related at the scene. At this point, the motive isn't exactly clear if drugs were a feature of the motive or they just happened to be part of the landscape that night," said Cam McLay, of the Madison Police Department.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and other persons of interest are being sought for questioning.
