A man who escaped from Mendota Mental Health in Madison was outside hitting golf balls when he escaped, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint states that Graham Stowe, 30, was hitting golf balls while he was being transferred to a more secure area of the facility to another when he escaped July 2. Officials said Stowe climbed a fence and ran into the woods after he asked to gather the golf balls.
Stowe was admitted to Mendota because he planned on killing himself in front of his girlfriend and her family, who he had kidnapped and tied up, officials said. He was found Oct. 12 in Fond du Lac.
Stowe appeared in court Thursday and was bound over for trial on a felony charge of escape.
