Attorney General Brad Schimel says his agents have finished their investigation of an officer-involved shooting that sparked riots in Milwaukee.

Schimel said Friday that the Department of Justice has completed their probe of Syville Smith's death and has forwarded its findings on to Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm for a charging decision. Schimel said DOJ would release nothing to the public until Chisholm decides not to issue charges or determines the material can be released.

Two nights of violence erupted after an officer fatally shot Smith during a foot chase on Aug. 13. Police have said Smith turned around to face the officer with a gun in his hand and ignored orders to drop the weapon.

The officer was black. Smith was black as well.
