MADISON, Wis. -

A storm plowing through the upper Midwest this week could cause travelers headaches as they try and get home for Thanksgiving.

Snow fell overnight across Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.  Snow is expected to continue today north of a line from LaCrosse to Green Bay.  Additional accumulations up to 3" will be possible today, with the highest amounts in far northern Wisconsin.  Snow will wind down from west to east this evening.

AAA is predicting the busiest Thanksgiving weekend in 9 years this week, as travelers go home for the holiday.

AAA expects 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving, which is an increase of one million travelers compared with last year. This total also represents a 1.9 percent increase over 2015.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 23, to Sunday, Nov. 27.
