Shopping List Suggestions

  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 1 package fresh berries (we chose a 6-oz. container of blackberries)
  • 3 large sweet potatoes (yams)
  • 1 gallon non-fat or low-fat milk
  • 1 package sliced cheddar cheese
  • 1 large carton plain yogurt (regular or Greek)
  • 1 pound sweet-and-sour cole slaw
  • 1 loaf whole-wheat bread
  • 1 package chili seasoning mix
  • 1 15-oz can black beans
  • 1 15-oz can garbanzo beans (chick peas)
  • 1 large can (12 oz or more) light tuna
  • 1 tube frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 box whole-grain breakfast cereal

* This list assumes the shopper checked his/her supplies before going to the store. In this example, the shopper has a can of tomatoes, an onion, fruit (e.g., canned or frozen peaches), butter or margarine, sugar or sweetener, and basic spices in their pantry and refrigerator.
