Sheriff: 6 men charged with OWI overnight had prior convictions
52-year-old charged with 6th drunken-driving offense
Despite warnings from authorities and free rides offered on New Year's Eve, at least six people drove under the influence anyway, each with prior drunken driving convictions, officials said.
The Dane County Sheriff's Department said the list of arrests overnight includes:
Ronald Essie, 52, of Madison, who was charged with his sixth operating while under the influence offense in Windsor. Essie also received eluding and possession of cocaine charges in connection with a traffic stop on Interstate 39.
Adrian Duel of Cross Plains was charged with a third OWI offense after a passerby found the 38-year-old passed out in his vehicle on Carya Road in the town of Berry.
Forty-nine-year-old Tim Hasey of Cottage Grove was arrested on suspicion of his third OWI after he crashed his vehicle into a snowbank at exit 108 on northbound Highway 151 in the town of York, the sheriff's department said.
Dustin Stampfli-Rowin, 19, of Deerfield, was charged with a second-offense OWI after his vehicle allegedly slid into the ditch on Oak Park Road in the town of Deerfield.
Stampfli-Rowin was also charged with four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
Forty-seven year old James Dahmen, of Cross Plains, was arrested by a deputy for a suspected fourth OWI after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a utility pole on Thinnes Street in the village of Cross Plains.
Aaron Stephenson, 22, of Sun Prairie, was found passed out in his vehicle in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Milwaukee Street in the town of Blooming Grove, the sheriff's department said.
In addition to being charged with a third-offense OWI, Stephenson also received citations for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and operating after revocation, according to the report.
