There's a shift in leadership and a new focus at the Rock County Humane Society.
"I would say this is the first step in a new vision for the humane society," said Executive Director Brett Frazier.
Plans are underway to open a satellite adoption center inside Petco in Janesville.
"Everyone knows we used to have a satellite location in Mounds here in Janesville and we're actually talking right now about ways to get our cats located over there as well," said Frazier.
Frazier stepped into the position of executive director about six weeks ago. He said their first order of business is getting more of their adoptable pets out of their shelter and into the community.
Frazier said getting the animals into the community will increase their chances of being adopted. This will also free up space at their current facility, which is usually full.
This new initiative is part of larger changes to the organization following the departure of their previous director earlier this year.
"I've talked to the staff, I've talked to the municipalities and our other partners and we're hitting a reset button," said Frazier.
Petco rolled out the red carpet for the cats and kittens.
"We're very excited to be partnering with the Rock County Humane Society, We're looking forward to Helping Rock County in their new vision," said acting General Manager Leslie Weber
The center will be housed in their newly remodeled store in the former bird room.
"We're looking forward to growing and helping the community and the associates are very excited to help the people looking to adopt and educate them on the best ways to take care of the animal," said Weber.
Frazier is hoping this will help more cats and kittens find their forever homes.
Unlike at the previous satellite center the humane society paid staff will work the new center, rather than volunteers in order to make the adoption process a smooth one for the pets and potential pet owners.
The new satellite adoption center can only hold a maximum of six cats. It officially opens Aug. 17.
