REEDSBURG, Wis. -

A bartender was injured early Monday morning when a Reedsburg man stabbed him in the neck with a knife, officials said.

Police responded to the parking lot behind a bar in the 200 block of East Main Street around 1:20 a.m. Monday for reports of a stabbing, according to a release.

When crews arrived they found a man with a knife wound to his neck, officials said. Bar customers were restraining Gary L. Jackson, 48, of Reedsburg, the man believed to have stabbed the bartender.

Officials said Jackson was arrested and crews recovered the knife.

The bartender, Daniel R. Schlough, 52, of LaValle, was transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center for serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Schlough was later transported to UW Hospital for further treatment.

Jackson was treated and released from Reedsburg Area Medical Center for injuries sustained in the fight, officials said. He is being held in the Sauk County Jail while police suggest charges of attempted first-degree reckless homicide, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

According to the release, witnesses said Jackson’s attack was unprovoked.
